A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is taking down a westbound work zone lane restriction on I-24 near the Kentucky-Tennessee State line.

The contractor was using a long-reach track hoe to clear brush along the westbound right of way as part of ongoing maintenance work.  Due to heavy holiday traffic the contractor is halting work early.

The crew had planed to pull down the westbound work zone near the 90mm in Kentucky after lunch, but westsbound I-24 traffic had backed up about 5 miles to near Clarksville Exit 4 in Tennessee.

With the work zone coming down shortly the traffic backup in this area should dissipate within about half an hour.

As a reminder, a work zone lane restrction on I-24 at the 30 mile marker in Kentucky will have to remain up during the busy holiday driving period.  Motorists traveling through this work zone on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge near Calvert City should consider an alternate route via US 62 and KY 453 or US 68 and I-69 to avoid backups that are likely at this site during peak travel periods.
