Two Christian County Public Schools’ employees were recently recognized in the Kentucky Music Educators Association for their service to music education, according to a CCPS news release.

Anthony Darnall, Christian County High School band director, was named the 2019-20 3rd District KMEA teacher of the year. Amy Wilcox, CCPS chief instructional officer, was named the 2019-20 3rd District KMEA administrator of the year.

The recognitions are due to the educators’ dedication and contributions to the musical arts programs in Christian County, according to the release.

According to New Era archives, under Darnall’s direction the CCHS band has around 106 members this school year. That is the first time in around 20 years that the band has surpassed 100 members.

The Colonel Band is in the midst of its 2019 competitive season.

According to the CCPS news release, both Darnall and Wilcox will be recognized at the KMEA Professional Development Conference district meeting in Feb. 2020 and are also eligible for state awards.
