Hopkinsville Police Department confirmed that the Tuesday shooting was unfounded.
Police Chief Clayton Sumner said officers could not find any evidence that a shooting occurred.
"We called area hospitals, and no one has arrived with a gunshot wound," Sumner said.
According to scanner traffic, a woman called around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday to report that a man had been shot in the area of Hillcrest Baptist Church and the former Haddock's Grocery on Ninth Street.
However, Sumner said officers who were dispatched to the scene could not find shell casings or any other evidence that a shooting happened.
