The Christian County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that three people died and two people are being treated for injuries from a three-vehicle wreck Friday morning on Pennyrile Parkway.
One person is in critical condition and the other is being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, the release states. The names of victims are not being released at this time.
The southbound lanes of the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway are blocked at the 3 mile marker in Christian County due to the crash that occurred between a semi truck and two cars just before 5 a.m.
Southbound Pennyrile Parkway traffic will be detoured via the U.S. 68 Hopkinsville Bypass eastbound to U.S. 41-Alternate southbound to reach I-24 at Exit 86, according to a release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 spokesman Keith Todd.
Todd expects the lanes to be closed for approximately four hours.
CCSO accident inspectors are on scene trying to determine the cause of the crash.
Anyone traveling south on the Pennyrile Parkway is advised to get off at either Fort Campbell Boulevard or Eagle Way to bypass the accident scene.
