Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel said Wednesday evening that a man died in a fatal accident at the local Metalsa plant.

The man’s name was Michael Curcio, 58, Hopkinsville.

No other details have been released at this time.

Trent Haddock, assistant human resources manager at Metalsa of Hopkinsville, said an investigation is ongoing and was unable to comment on the nature of the accident.

Metalsa is an automotive structures manufacturer on Bill Bryan Boulevard in Hopkinsville.

The company’s public relations firm issued a statement Thursday afternoon:

“Metalsa communicates with deep sadness that Wednesday evening an accident occurred in our Hopkinsville facility during which, unfortunately, one of our team members lost his life.

“We would like to express our most sincere condolences to his family and offer our full support as they go through this difficult time. We are all family and the entire Metalsa team is truly devastated by this event.

“We are fully committed to collaborating with proper authorities to understand exactly what happened and act accordingly. For now, we appreciate your understanding and respect for the team member’s family, friends and loved ones.”
